The Unique Beauty Of Yellow Pears
Natural yellow pearls, also known as Margarita pearls are extremely difficult to find today. They have a unique yellowish color. The most famous Margarita necklace in modern times was given to Jacqueline Kennedy by Venezuelan President Romulo Betancourt when she accompanied her husband on an official visit to Venezuela.
Some natural pearls take on the color of their host, ranging from white, pink, blue, yellow, golden and even black. Long ago people thought that yellow pearls took their color from the putrification process as oysters were left in the sun to open on their own. This is not true. Opening oysters immediately or letting them open naturally has no effect on the color of the pearl.
The color of pearls is determined by body color, which may be white, cream, or yellow. Overtone or secondary color is a tint of blue, pink, green, yellow, brown, or black. The combination of base color and overtone determines the color of the pearl. Obviously a dark yellow pearl is more valuable than a light one.
Of course if you watch QVC, you know that cultured pearls come in a variety of fashion colors, yellow being just one of many available hues. Yellow pearls are very popular with darker skinned people, as they look wonderful against darker or tanned skin.
Conchs sometimes produce yellow pearls, but they are rare. If you have your heart set on yellow or golden pearls, cultured pearls may be your best bet. You can buy loose pearls and have them made into jewelry or get necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings already made.
